Another week and another delivery ready to go to the customer. This year Smart Clothing are celebrating 20 years of service to the people of Bolton and Bury in Lancashire providing high quality school uniforms and clothing. For this Thompsons Packaging Ltd have supplied Smart Clothing with their new bespoke Flexi loop & Patch handle carrier bags printed 2 colours on 2 sides.
Smart clothing are making use of the white LDPE film to create a 3 colour look for both styles of their bespoke Flexi loop & Patch handle carrier bags without the cost of an actual 3 colour print. This saves Smart Clothing money in terms of plate and reproduction costs. Smart Clothing also reproduced the same print area across both styles of bags. This again reduced the origination costs as the same print plates could be used across both designs.
Both the patch handle carrier bag whose dimensions are 15x18x3″, and the larger flexi loop handle carrier bag measuring in at 24x20x4″ are popular sizes among clothing retailers. The smaller carrier bag being the perfect size for trousers, shirts and jumpers, while the larger is perfect for multiple and larger items such as coats and jackets. There will be more on the differences between bespoke Flexi loop & Patch handle carrier bag handle styles explained below in a following section.
Smart Clothing Flexi Loop
Patch handle carrier bags have a reinforced handle. Where the polythene is punched out in order to produce the hole that is the handle a further piece of plastic is applied so that the handle can tolerate the weight of a full bag.
Flexi-loop carrier bags are made with a reinforced handle constructed from thick polythene. The handle is welded to the inside of the bag forming a loop that is comfortable and robust, giving the user a comfortable experience and a bag they can trust to get their shopping home safely.

If you are considering having a printed patch handle carrier bag produced to take you business to the next level then there are a few aspects you have to consider. I have added as a quick check a few of the factors in the list below:
The size and style of the bag
The number of print colours
Is the bag to be printed on both sides, if so is it the same design on both?
Carrier Bags Size
The larger the bag, the more material has to be used, the bigger the cost of production. Therefore it goes without saying it is better to avoid wasting material on a bag that is larger than you require for your needs.
Printing Plates – Number Of Print Colours
The more colours you have in your design the higher the cost. This is mainly due to two factors.
The number and amount of inks used
The number of print plates required
Therefore if you design requires a few different colours it is worth considering if the LDPE film colour can be incorporated into the design in some way.
Printing Plates – Is there a different design on each side?
Some business go for this option for good reasons, and where applicable it works well and looks great. However you do have to remember a different design required another set of printing plates, therefore there will be additional costs to take into consideration.
You should try to order the maximum quantity of carrier bags you can during a print run, as long as it also fits comfortably into you budget. As with all things in life the greater the quantity, the smaller the cost per unit.
If you get the design of you carrier bag right in the first place then when it comes time to re-order, as long as there are no changes to your design from the previous print runs, the plates can be reused. Plates can last up to 8 years before they start to show signs of wear and tear, so if the design remains the same the plates can be re-used, and that a whole cost from the first run that can be eliminated from subsequent orders.

Pallet Wrap Stretch Film – The Differences Between Cast and Blown
We have decided to write this post titled ‘Pallet Wrap Stretch Film – The Differences Between Cast and Blown’ due to the number of question we are regularly ask by our customers on this issue. It is not always obvious to the end user what the difference between a cast & blown film is. In some cases people are completely unaware that there is even a choice. As longs as it wraps and secures your goods what does it matter? Well, in some cases it does, and yours might be one of them! Below you will find a brief description highlighting some of the properties of each type of stretch film. Have a look over them and see which would be better for your purposes.
Differences in Manufacture
Pallet Wrap, Cast & Blown, What’s the difference?
Many people in industries across the world make good use of pallet wrap (or as others may call it, stretch film) for securing their goods for safe transit and storage. The main difference between these two types of stretch film is in the manufacturing process.
Blown Stretch Film
Heated resin beads are processed through a circular die and blown out vertically into a bubble. This film is then cut into a single sheets and transformed into rolls of stretch film, the film is cooled by the surrounding air. It is the time it takes to cool the rolls that makes blown film more expensive than cast, as this impacts on the manufacturing output.
Cast Stretch Film
As with blown film heated resin beads are processed but this time passed through a slotted die. As the film is already in sheet form no further process is required to convert the film. This sheet is then passed allong a rolling path that cools and solidifies the film.
Blown v Cast Stretch Film – A Comparison
Blown Stretch Film
Cast Stretch Film
More holding power, won’t re-stretch once applied
Stretches easily, even after applied to pallet which can cause shifting
Higher ability to shrink back to original size after stretch
Minimal ability to go back to original state after stretching
Stretches much farther to cover more pallets with less film
Additional stretching can be obtained easier through lower micron blown films
Manufacturing process allows greater resistance to breaking
Standard tearing can occur when stressed too much
Cling of the Film:
1 sided cling, great for higher load retention
Naturally clingy on both sides, can make pallets stick together
Not crystal clear, can make reading and scanning harder, but has a lower gloss reducing reflections
Perfectly clear, makes reading and scanning in warehouse light easy, but a higher gloss makes reflections annoying.
Noise on unwind:
Loud when releasing from the roll
Very quiet when unwound from the stretch roll
If you have any further question regarding any of the issues highlighted above, or if you would like to take over your requirements them please remember we are here to help and assist you. All you have to do is give us a call.
Keeping your product at their best – Insulated Carrier Bags
Insulated Cool Bags were developed to help protect chilled and frozen foods, keeping them at a low temperature for longer, therefore helping customers avoid illness.
Shoreway Fisheries – Botany Bay – Garstang – Lancaster
Bacteria multiply rapidly above 10°c. Chilled foods can soon reach this when removed from the chiller or fridge, especially when being transported home. A similar chain reaction starts when frozen food is thawed then refrozen and kept for long periods. Our range of Cool Bags help slow this process giving you or your customer the chance to get home before the food spoils.
Available in a range of sizes
Insulated Carrier Bags can be purchased in 3 standard sizes as well as bespoke sizes, either plain or in standard or bespoke prints and colours.
Don’t just take our word for it…
Shoreway Fisheries use the Insulated Carrier Bags in just this way. Having opened a brand new outlet in Botany Bay Food Hall, Shoreway needed a solution to help make the best of the excellent fresh produce. With many visitor making there way to Botany Bay via coach there was a real need for the fresh fish to have the temperature regulated for the customer on the journey home, no matter how long they may be on the coach for.
Damien Shaw of Shoreways says
“The insulated Carrier Bags are an ideal solution, not only do they keep the product at its very best for the customer but they also look professional, and along with the branding the bags are something the customer will use again and again”.
